National Craft Month 2008: Fashion Crafting and Personalized Style – Craft & Hobby Association Celebrates New Face of Fashion Crafting

Elmwood, NJ (PRWEB) March 5, 2008

According to the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA), there is a new face in fashion crafting. The fashion crafting industry currently boasts retail sales at approximately $ 6.3 billion*. Within this industry is a new movement that is all about individual style, authenticity and creating something unique that can really be enjoyed. Fashion crafting projects are highly personalized and are often distinguished by embellishments, unconventional materials, unique details and a general “DIY” feel. National Craft Month is a great time for people to incorporate their own personal style into current or future fashion craft project.

“National Craft Month has always been a time to celebrate the art and benefits of crafting,” said Steve Berger, CEO, Craft & Hobby Association. “This year we combined the popularity of general crafting with the latest fashion movement to create a theme for National Craft Month that encourages people to create handmade, personalized couture no matter the skill level.”

With so many boutique retail chains capitalizing on the handcrafted look, there is no better time than National Craft Month to discover news ways to replicate those fashion trends. CHA encourages people to visit local retailers to find different products that will allow them to create a very personalized style with ease.

“The styles that we see in home and apparel stores are easy to recreate,” said Terri Oullette, national spokesperson for CHA and author of Terri O.’s Easy Embellishing. “Whether someone is Gen-Y or a Boomer, always crafts or has never crafted before, they can find a wide variety of tools and products at any craft store to help them make their own version of the trendiest looks.”

Here are some ideas from Terri O. for fashion crafts that can help you celebrate your personal style with items already in your closet and a few products from the local craft store:

Embellish a pair of jeans using glue on crystals to create a designer look for less
Use fabric and double stick tape to enhance the heel of your favorite pair of black pumps
For kids, use iron on appliqués and specialty fabric pens to turn a basic backpack into a personalized fashion accessory
Using hot glue, attach a beaded trim to the seams of a casual clutch to take it from daytime casual to evening elegant
Lost an earring? Use basic jewelry making tools to turn your remaining earring into a pendant perfect for your favorite charm bracelet

During National Craft Month, retailers across the country will offer special classes and demonstrations, as well as tips and projects to get customers involved. CHA is happy to continue their tradition of National Craft Month as they encourage people to share their passion for crafting. To learn more about what is happening in your area during National Craft Month, to locate the nearest craft store, or for additional project ideas visit CraftPlace.org.

New Web Site Lets Craft Makers and Artists Sell Their Wares Online Easily, Affordably

New Web Site Lets Craft Makers and Artists Sell Their Wares Online Easily, Affordably

Sherwood, OR (PRWEB) April 20, 2004

Craft makers and artists wanting to sell their crafts online have a new outlet in MyCraftSource. Created to assist small businesses or individuals who want to sell their crafts or craft supplies online, MyCraftSource addresses the two biggest obstacles to crafters unsure of how to sell their products online: cost and effort.

Joseph Russ, co-founder of the Sherwood, Oregon based company, says the service was created from a need he and his wife saw in the craft community. “We noticed there were many talented craft people who wanted to sell their products online, but were afraid it would be too expensive or too difficult. We designed our site so that anyone can use it. One of our crafters is a 57 year old grandmother who never dreamed she’d be able to have her own website!”

For $ 10 per month or less, MyCraftSource provides a fully-featured web site including an individual online catalog and shopping cart. No prior web site building or HTML knowledge is required. All editing is done through an online web site builder where crafters select the layout and design for their site from a wide range of predefined graphic themes.

A catalog feature is available to crafters wanting to do more than market their crafts online. Customers can purchase items immediately online, expanding the potential customer base for the crafters.

Jen Stewart, an independent consultant for the Picture Perfect Scrapbook Company, was one of the charter members of the site. She is thrilled with the features and level of service of the site. “My business has increased considerably ever since I got my website online! I was able to do it all myself (without knowing HTML), I didn’t have to hire a webmaster, and I am able to update anytime.”

Crafters interested in finding out more about the services provided by the company may visit the company’s website at http://www.MyCraftSource.com

Started in January, 2004 by Joseph and Kerri Russ of Sherwood, Oregon, MyCraftSource provides affordable web site hosting with premium features and minimal effort for crafters wishing to market or sell their crafts online.

Rollergirls, Burlesque Show and Wrestlers to be Featured at Punk Rock Craft Fair

Rollergirls, Burlesque Show and Wrestlers to be Featured at Punk Rock Craft Fair

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) July 15, 2006

It may be called a craft fair, but don’t expect to find any crocheted doilies on hand. The Punk Rock Craft Fair has very little in common with the church bazaar atmosphere usually associated with craft sales. The Punk Rock Craft Fair, to be held this July 29th and 30th at the Che Collective on the UCSD campus, is a free two-day festival that combines raw musical performances, underground arts and crafts, and side-show like attractions to create a truly unique experience.

“It’s going to be wild,” says Nicole Yost, the event’s organizer. “Not only do we have a great mix of oddball art, we also have a burlesque show, a wrestling show, punk bands, a dominatrix, and lots of other great entertainment.” The event is a collaborative effort of hip local crafters the San Diego Craft Mafia and the Bad Girls of Craft. A full schedule of events and vendors can be found on the Punk Rock Craft Fair Website at Punk Rock Craft Fair website.

The Punk Rock Craft Fair is a two-day festival that features different bands, performers, artists and vendors on each day. Visitors to the free event will also have the opportunity to win a variety of unique prizes that have been donated by artists and vendors from across the country.

The Punk Rock Craft fair will be held on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30 at the Che on the UCSD campus in San Diego. The event is free and runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. All ages are welcome. More information about the event, including a list of vendors and performers, can be found at the Punk Rock Craft Fair website at Punk Rock Craft Fair website.
